Dutch defeat Domincan in the tournaments first upset!

For those of you who voted on my latest poll for the Dominican Republic to win the Baseball classic there has been a turn for the worst as one of the heavy favorites to win the competition lost to a rookie Netherlands team in the searing heat in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This was a major upset as the Dutch man's defense held on for a 3 to 2 win. The Dominican will now play for survival in the competition against Pannama, who also lots its opening game. They wil battle it out on Sunday March 8th at 4:30 p.m. ET at Hiram Bithorn Stadiumin San Juan. The Netherlands will play Puerta Rico on the 9th March for the chance to advance to the later stages of the competition.

  1. Congratulations to the Netherlands team. Unfortunately, I was not able to watch the game. Could you please give a description of the game? Or you can possibly post YouTube videos of important parts of the game.

  2. I LOVE baseball and the WBC is a VERY underrated event for the sport. When I turned to the Netherlands/DR game I was pleasantly surprised by the score and when the game went final I was elated. This years DR team reminds me of the '06 USA team - a group of cocky guys who thought they were going to cruise through the tournament - and I enjoyed watching them lose! Since the Netherlands lost tonight and have to play the DR again it should be a pretty interesting game. Can't wait for that one.

Just a question - the other day I was reading WBC stuff and I stumbled upon a site that's dedicated to baseball in Europe and around the world. I was surprised to find that Germany and France actually had two of the biggest baseball leagues in Europe. They listed a professional league in England that had I think 8 teams. Have you ever heard of such a league?
